Suited connectors are good in deep-stack events

Daniel Negreanu has said that players should avoid playing hands like A-8 or K-7 in deep-stack events but should consider suited connectors.

Kid Poker explained in an article for the Arizona Star that A-8 or similar hands have the potential to win small pots and lose large ones, making them unattractive hole cards.

If a player tries to steal blinds with this sort of hand and is called, even if they catch a high pair on the flop, there is a relatively high chance their kicker will be overmatched by another gamer.

However, he said that low suited connectors, such as 6-7 of diamonds could provide a flush or straight.

The four-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner warned that a flush might be beaten by an opponent who held onto an ace and caught a nut flush.

"Make your straight, though, and you've hit pay dirt! That hand will win a very high percentage of the time," he added.

He noted that this is because it is a well-disguised hand that could take a large pot from a gamer with a high pair or pocket rockets.

Negreanu's most recent win was in the British Columbia Poker Championships, where he picked up a $366,656 first prize.
