2010 Wsop Hits the Money Bubble |
More big names take the walk to the rail – many before the bubble
Only 576 players remain in the 2010 World Series of Poker main event with the conclusion of Day 4 action 11pm Vegas time on Tuesday night.
For these survivors of an original field of 7,319 and Day 4 starter list of 1,240, it was the day where the money bubble burst at the 748th elimination, ensuring that the remaining players are all in the money to the tune of at least $19,263 – a good return on the $10 000 buy-in investment.
Day 4 kicked off Tuesday afternoon with veteran player Dwyte Pilgrim giving the ‘shuffle up and deal’ call as the field got down to business at level 13.James Carroll was the frontrunner with 803,000 chips, but a slew of excellent players like Scotty Nguyen, Robert Varkonyi, Filippo Candio and 1987 and 1988 champ Johnny Chan remained in contention.
Other well known faces around the tables included Eric Baldwin, Steve Billirakis, Johnny Lodden, Patrik Antonius, Vanessa Selbst, Scott Clements, Annie Duke, Humberto Brenes, Isaac Baron, Barry Greenstein and Alexander Kostritsyn.
The eliminations were soon coming thick and fast, with many respected players falling before the money bubble burst, including Barny Boatman, Matt Savage, JJ Liu, Blair Rodman, Dave Colclough, Rob Perlman, Barry Shulman, Dewey Tomko, Kathy Liebert, Raymond Rahme, Barry Greenstein, Erica Schoenberg, Robert Varkonyi, Annie Duke, Nicolas Chouity, Valdemar Kwaysser, Dan Harrington, Kido Pham, Corwin Cole and Humberto Brenes.
Player Tim McDonald was the unlucky 748th player to bust out on the money bubble, and received a round of applause.
Twelve hours after the kick off, tournament staff wrapped it up for the night at level 17 with 576 players remaining and average stacks at around 381,198.
Leading the field was a sartorially impeccable Tony Dunst on 1,546,000, chased by nearest rival Duy Le on 1,460,000, with several other millionaire stacks in the top ten finishers.
All four Mizrachi brothers made the money, although Eric was subsequently eliminated.
Last year's bubble boy, Kia Hamadani was back again this year, and this time he made it into the cash.
One of the last bust-outs of the night was Allen Cunningham.
There’s still potential for plenty of action as the competition moves into Day 5 on Wednesday, with the likes of Phil Galfond, Theo Jorgensen, Matt Affleck, Adam Levy, Alexander Kostritsyn Praz Bansi, Scotty Nguyen and Vanessa Selbst all with healthy stacks and more than ready to compete with Johnny Chan, Tony Dunst and other leaders.
