2011 Wsop Day 6
Monday July 18, 2011 : LENAGHAN LEADS AS WORLD SERIES OF POKER SHRINKS TO 57 SURVIVORS
Competition intensifies as the cashes grow bigger and eliminations continue
In Las Vegas the World Series of Poker main event moved into Day 6 Sunday with 142 survivors from an original field of 6,865 taking their seats at midday.
10 hours later, officials called a halt for the day at level 26 with just 57 players left, average chip counts at 3,613,158 and the next elimination in line to claim a cash of $130,997; the survivors have definitely reached the big money, and with a millionaire's final table of nine now on the horizon, competition can be expected to ramp up in intensity when day 7 commences Monday.
Ryan Lenaghan is currently holding a comfortable chip lead on 12,865,000, with Ben Lamb his closest rival on 9,800,000, followed by Matt Giannetti (7,490,000), Andrey Pateychuk (7,255,000), and Phil Collins (7,240,000).
Earlier in the day Collins had busted out 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong in a blitz where he commanded the action for some time and was the first to accrue more than 10 million chips this year. His dominance was not to last, although he now sits in the fifth spot in the top ten and remains dangerous.
The Day 6 survivor list can boast only one woman; with the eliminations of Claudia Crawford and Amanda Musumeci during the day, only Erika Moutinho remains, and she is far back in the field on just over 2 million chips.
Perhaps predictably, professional players predominate in the list of those who are going through to Day 7, with Bryan Devonshire, David Bach, Lars Bonding, Erick Lindgren, Steve Brecher, Sam Barnhart, Sebastian Ruthenberg and Tony Hachem all still in contention.
High profile players who fell on Day 6 included Jean-Robert Bellande, Allen Cunningham, Rupert Elder, Amanda Musumeci, Ray Henson, Sorel Mizzi, Peter Feldman, and Eli Elezra.
The plan for Day 7 is to play down to 18 players.
