2011 Wsop End Day 5
Monday July 18, 2011 : 142 survivors move into Day 6 on Sunday
Poker pro David Bach from Georgia showed what a consummate poker player he is Saturday, ending Day 5 of the World Series of Poker main event as chip leader in an 11 hour session that saw 378 survivors return to the tables, but only 142 still in contention when the chips were bagged for the day late Saturday night.
Bach, who bagged 4.7 million chips when play was stopped at level 22 an hour before midnight, has some fierce competition nipping at his heels in the forms of Pius Heinz (4.699 million) and Kyle Johnson (4.65 million).
Chasing them with still-formidable stacks are players like Ben Lamb (just over 4 million chips), Alexsandr Mozhnykov, Sebastian Ruthenburg, Lars Bonding and Bryan Devonshire - all in the top ten stacks.
Day 5 action was fast and intense from the first cards dealt on Saturday, with eliminations coming at a furious pace as the survivors got to work, all now in the cash zone. Each of the 378 players who started was guaranteed at least $30,974.
In level 19 alone, 90 players headed for the cashier, and it took just four levels to thin the field out to the last 142 contestants with the chip lead changing frequently, mainly between Bach, Heinz and Lamb.
Manoj Viswanathan, who started the day holding the chip lead, didn’t last long, eliminated before the dinner break by David Barter who had earlier deprived him of two major pots.
Still in the field with substantial stacks at the end of the day were Sam Barnhart, JP Kelly, Tom Koral, David Barter, Tony Hachem, Jean-Robert Bellande, Tyler Bonkowski, Daryl Jace, Allen Cunningham, Joseph Cheong, Sami Kelopuro, David Sands, Sorel Mizzi, Eli Elezra, Vladimir Geshkenbein and Erick Lindgren.
Just three women are still among the contestants: Claudia Crawford, Amanda Musumeci and Erika Moutinho.
Big name bust-outs in Day 5 included four-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, Freddy Deeb, John Cernuto, Jon Turner, Alex Kamberis, Carter King, Peter Jetten, Kevin Saul, Paul Volpe, Joe Tehan, Matt Stout, and Garry Gates.
Play goes into Day 6 at noon Vegas time on Sunday, with the next elimination - at position 142 - cashing for $54,851.
