Charles Sylvestre Wins 2013 WSOP Event 3
Monday June 3,2013 : FRENCH-CANADIAN VICTORY IN WORLD SERIES OF POKER EVENT 3
Charles Sylvestre claims the winner's bracelet and $491,360
The third event in the current World Series of Poker spectacular unfolding at the Rio in Las Vegas, the $1,500 buy-in NLHE Re-entry competition, was taken down after four days of action by French-Canadian amateur player Charles Sylvestre over the weekend, playing against some of the biggest professional names in world poker.
To win his first World Series of Poker bracelet Sylvestre had to survive a huge field of 3,164 players that included names like Erick Lindgren, Jake Balsiger, Eric Baldwin, Scott Seiver and Nam Le...all intent on earning a chunk of the $4,746,000 prize pool.
During the tense heads up against Seth Berger he was supported by former WSOP main event champ and fellow Québécoise Jonathan Duhamel. Although Berger gave it everything he had, he was unable to best Sylvestre, but still took home a second placing pay check worth $303,952.
Thirty-year-old Sylvestre is a real estate broker in his other life, but as an avid poker player he has engaged with many well-known names, both online and on the Quebec live tournament circuit. Just two weeks back he earned $230,000 in a Pokerstars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) event.
The French-Canadian's big win in event 3 - the third of 62 competitions scheduled for this year's WSOP - exceeded his expectations and has convinced him that he needs to stay on in Las Vegas and play more of this year's potentially lucrative WSOP events.
“I was planning to be here just ten days, but now I think I am going to play the whole series and see what happens,” Sylvestre said after his victory.
In related news, events 4 and 5 are now very much active at WSOP. Event #4 - the $1,500 buy-in NLHE (Six-Max) has reached its final table with US pro Mike Mustafa holding the chip lead, but with former WSOP Main Event winner Joe Cada, WSOP bracelet winner Keven Stammen and German star Manig Loeser still to beat.
Event #5 is a $2,500 buy-in Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8-or-Better has reached its third day of action with just 19 players still in the hunt, led by Mike Gorodinsky, who is being chased hard by Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, David ‘Bakes’ Baker and George Danzer.
