2013 WSOP Event 35
Saturday June 22,2013 : MADSEN MAKES IT THREE AT WORLD SERIES OF POKER
It's taken seven years, but achieving WSOP gold is still sweet
Seven years back US poker pro Jeff Madsen ( @JeffMadsenobv ) created a stir at the World Series of Poker when, at 21 years old he went into the record books as the youngest ever winner of a WSOP bracelet and the coveted Player of the Year title after winning another WSOP bracelet in the same series .
Although he has maintained a reputation for being a talented and aggressive player in live tournaments since then, a third piece of WSOP jewellery has eluded him....until Saturday, when he bested a field of 639 to win event 35: a $3,000 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha competition and claim that third bracelet and the main prize of $384,420.
The final table featured other bracelet holders in Scott Clements (2x) and Jason DeWitt, along with Douglas Corning, Michal Maryska, Danny Hannawa, Ryan Chapman, William Black and Joni Jouhkimainen, with Madsen holding the chip lead at the start, and retaining his lead through much of the final table action.
By the time the heads up stage was reached Madsen faced fellow US player Douglas Corning, with barely 30,000 chips separating the two and Corning just a nose ahead. However, after just six hands Madsen had retaken the lead and was in charge by almost 2 to 1.
Around the thirty eighth hand mark Madsen finally managed to eliminate Corning for $237,374 to become the fourth past Player of the Year pro this series to claim a bracelet, along with Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren and Tom Schneider.
Other pay-outs on the final table looked like this:
3 Michal Maryska $154,312
4 Danny Hannawa $113,340
5 Scott Clements $84,424
6 Ryan Chapman $63,702
7 William Black $48,624
8 Joni Jouhkimainen $37,529
9 Jason DeWitt $29,265
