2013 WSOP Main Event End Day 6
Monday July 15,2013 : WORLD SERIES OF POKER NEARS 2013 FINAL TABLE
Just 27 players left after Day 6
It was another day of thrills and, for some, acute disappointment at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas Sunday as Day 6 played to an early conclusion after four levels, with the survivor field of 68 reduced to just 27 going forward to Day 7 and the composition of this year's Main Event final table now in sight.
Befitting the achievement of outlasting an original field of 6,352 and a week of tough, uncompromising poker, the 27 players going forward are all now assured of six-figure cashes.
Going into Day 7 on Monday, Anton Morgenstern of Germany leads the pack on 21,955,000 chips - way ahead of his closest opponent, France's Sylvain Loosli on 14,125,000.
Boosting interest in the event is the continued survival of former WSOP main event champion Carlos Mortenson, and the sole remaining member of last year's final table, Steven Gee. Mortenson is at position 6 with 10,790,000 chips and Gee is further down the leadboard at 23rd on 3,160,000.
The chip leader when Day 6 started, Sami Rustom, suffered a reversal of fortunes and was eliminated at 39th for $185,694.
Also gone is the last female player still standing this year, Jackie Glazier of Australia, who tangled with Sergio Castelluccio only to lose and depart tearfully in 31st place for a well-earned $229,281.
Among the 27 who will return to the felt for Day 7 are, as previously noted, 2001 Main Event champion Carlos Mortensen and 2012 final tabler Steve Gee. Joining them will be respected players like Yevgeniy Timoshenko, David Benefield, JC Tran, Amir Lehavot and Rep Porter.
The Top Ten chip counts going into Day 7 are:
Anton Morgenstern Germany 21,955,000
Sylvain Loosli France 14,125,000 -150,000
Chris Lindh USA 12,035,000 -1,755,000
JC Tran USA 11,970,000 -1,485,000
Fabian Ortiz Argentina 10,810,000 1,110,000
Carlos Mortensen Spain 10,790,000 850,000
James Alexander USA 9,445,000 470,000
Jay Farber USA 8,975,000 -915,000
Matthew Reed USA 7,705,000 -325,000
Jason Mann Canada 7,505,000
