2013 WSOP Main Event Down to 239
Saturday July 13,2013 : WORLD SERIES OF POKER MAIN EVENT FIELD DOWN TO 239 PLAYERS
Day 4 sees both excitement and pathos as a veteran busts out, and a Wisconsin pro surges into the lead
Day 4 at the World Series of Poker main event saw a talent-loaded field of 666 start the action, but only 239 still standing at the end of a day filled with excitement and pathos as well respected names - including the legendary Doyle Brunson - were busted out, and new leaders emerged.
In just five levels of play the magic money number of 648 was reached, raising a cheer as the survivors realised that their buy-in was at least covered by the minimum cash of $19,106.
Triple WSOP bracelet holder Farzad Bonyadi was the bubble boy this year, falling to Nick Schwarmann at position 649.
Record keepers also noted that Christian Harder and Ronnie Bardah made it into the cash zone for the fourth consecutive time in WSOP main events...Bardah is still in the fight as Day 5 looms, but Harder busted out at 608th for $19,106
79-year-old poker legend Doyle Brunson's dreams for a third Main Event win and an eleventh WSOP bracelet were dashed when he was eliminated by Sergei Stazhkov at Level 18, departing in the 409th place and earning $28,063 - his first WSOP cash in the last ten years.
Brunson was given a standing ovation by the 400 players in action at the time as he left the room.
The excitement was all for Jon Lane, a poker pro from Wisconsin, who in the last hour of play in Day 4 surged into the lead after winning a million chip pot and will go into Day 5 with a 2,839,000 chip count, almost 400,000 ahead of nearest rival Sami Rustom.
Also moving to Day 5 with healthy stacks are Grayson Ramage (2,438,000), Amir Lehavot (1,783,000), David Benefield (1,675,000), Rachid Ben Cherif (1,649,000), Australian female ace Jackie Glazier (1,595,000), Rep Porter (1,526,000), Joshua Prager (1,237,000) and WSOPE main event winner Annette Obrestad (1,186,000).
Last year's winner Greg Merson is still running strongly as he strives to make this year his back-to-back win, replicating Dan Harrington's record set in 2003-2004...but his stack is below the average at 635,000.
Keeping Merson company is one other player from last year's final table, Steve Gee; Day 4 started with two other 2012 finalists in Robert Salaburu and Russell Thomas, but both were eliminated.
Among the notable names busting out in Day 4 were Allen Cunningham and Matt Marafioti, who both earned $32,242, Dutch Boyd, Lauren Kling, and Grant Hinkle.
Average chip stacks going into Day 5 are 797,322.
The top ten chip counts when Day 4 chips were bagged were:
1 Jon Lane 2,839,000
2 Sami Rustom 2,485,000
3 Grayson Ramage 2,438,000
4 Victor Cianelli 2,197,000
5 Seaver Kyaw 2,060,000
6 Yann Dion 2,025,000
7 Vincent Robert 1,976,000
8 Marc Emond 1,940,000
9 Robert Sichelstiel 1,910,000
