2014 WSOP Main Event Updates
Tuesday July 8,2014 : NO RECORD FOR THIS YEAR'S MAIN EVENT AT THE WORLD SERIES POKER
But a healthy overall turnout nevertheless.
Hopes that this year's World Series of Poker main event would attract a record entry list have not been realised following the release Monday of the official entry figures on the last registration date for Day 1c entrants.
Day 1c recorded 3,768 entries, bringing total registrations for the $10,000 buy-in event to 6,683, generating a prize pool of almost $63 million…that means that at the end of the day around 683 players should cash.
The total was an improvement of around 5 percent on last year's entries, with the comparison looking like this:
Day 1a 771 (2013 - 943)
Day 1b 2144 (2013 - 1,942)
Day 1c 3,768 (2013 - 3,467)
The registration list for this last chance at the 2014 main event read like a who's who of world poker talent, with almost every notable name you can think of crowding into the venue.
Among just a small sample spotted taking their seats were Phil Ivey, Gaelle Baumann, Greg Mueller, Phil Hellmuth, Todd Brunson Carlos Mortensen, Humberto Brenes, Doug Polk, former WSOP champs Joe Hachem and Jonathan Duhamel, Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Alex Bolotin, Jannifer Harman, Eric Buchman, Marcel Luske, Alex Kravchenko, Matt Glantz, Amir Lehavot, Dave Baker and Daniel Idema.
The "Shuffle Up and Deal" call honour was given to the current WSOP Player of the Year, Daniel Negreanu, who wasted no time in getting the cards in the air.
With just five hands to go before chips are bagged and the day ends, the latest bustees included Britain's Martins Adeniya; Canadian pro Marc-Andre Ladouceur; Shannon Shor from the USA and German ace Fabian Quoss.
Day 1c has ended with Eric Tracey in the chip lead on 206,175, chased by closest rival Phil Ivey on 187,025.
It proved to be an expensive day for the many respected names who were eliminated, including Tom Dwan, John Racener, former champs Greg Raymer and Jerry Yang, Jackie Glazier, Tom Schneider, Andrew Frankenberger, Davidi Kitai, Devilfish Ulliott, Andre Akkari, Kathy Liebert, Sam Trickett and Steve Billirakis.
But there is still a lot of firepower going to the next round, such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Gus Hansen, Robert Varkonyi, Joe Hachem, Jonathan Duhamel and Scotty Nguyen
