CHARTWELL WARNS ON COMPLETION OF BETFAIR SOFTWARE CONTRACT
Canadian provider confident that other business will help take up the slack
The Calgary, Canada-based online gambling software provider Chartwell Technology has issued a corporate update warning that its license agreement with giant operator Betfair will come to an end on August 31, 2010.
The update notes that Betfair has been a very significant Chartwell licensee for the past four years, but that new deals with Casinos Austria, Centrebet Ltd, and most recently Globet International Sports Betting Limited will take up some of the slack caused by the Betfair withdrawal.
"In addition to these new licensees Chartwell has numerous new sales opportunities in the pipeline and anticipates announcing several more new customers by year-end," the statement advises investors and interested parties. "The company is confident that current momentum of new business expected this year should allow us to replace the revenue lost from Betfair," the statement noted.
Betfair announced early in June that it would be switching to Playtech poker, casino and bingo products.
"We have enjoyed a very good relationship with Betfair and what we have learned through that association will certainly benefit us going forward", Darold H. Parken, CEO of Chartwell Technology Inc. said this week. "We wish them continued success and we have every intention of working with them again in the future should the opportunity arise."
"Chartwell has been a very good business partner to Betfair", stated Steve Ives, managing director of Betfair Games. "This was a difficult decision for us as we hold Chartwell, its products and its people in very high regard."
