Erik Seidel Wins Aussie Millions Super High Roller Poker Event
Posted 1/27/11 : Erik Seidel takes the title and AUD$2.5 million
The much anticipated Aussie Millions AUD$250,000 Super High Roller No Limit Hold'em Event played out at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia today (Thursday).
American veteran poker pro, Erik Seidel (51) emerged the victor heads-up against Englishman Sam Trickett (24) in the Aussie Millions AUD$250,000 Super High Roller event and pocketed AUD$2.5 million for his efforts. Fresh from his third place cash-out in event 8 of the tournament, Seidel is having a lucrative week in Australia. This win brings his live tournament earnings to approx. US$12.6 million.
The one-day event #21 is said to have broken all previous records for a poker tournament buy-in and while initially billed as a 'winner takes all' format - organisers advised that the players themselves would largely determine the pay-outs and it was expected that deals would be done.
The event generated huge excitement in the poker world due to the hefty price-tag, potential pay-out and player entries and it hasn't disappointed.
Eighteen big-name poker pro's sat down at the tables to begin play - Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Alexander Kostritsyn, Richard Young, Chris Ferguson, John Juanda, Tony Bloom, Nikolay Evdakov, Roland de Wolfe, Annette Obrestad, Wang Quiang, David Benyamine, James Obst, Sam Trickett, Paul Phua, Erik Seidel, James Bord and Daniel Cates.
When it came down to the final three Erik Seidel, David Benyamine and Sam Trickett - a deal was struck and it was agreed to put aside AUD$100 000, creating a second prize of AUD$1.4 million and a third place prize of AUD$1.1 million.
Sam Trickett's year has also had a good start as he takes home AUD$1.4 million for his second placing in this event as well as AUD$1.525 million from his win in event 8 - the Aussie Millions AUD$100 000 challenge bringing his live tournament earnings to in the region of US$ 4.5 million.
David Benyamine's third placing nets him a generous AUD$1.1 million.
