A European player will emerge the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, as the table whittled down to three, Tuesday.
The final three players still in contention comprise Dutch poker pro Jorryt van Hoof, Martin Jacobson from Sweden and Norwegian Felix Stephenson.
van Hoof, who will become the first Dutch world poker champion in history should he emerge victorious, led the field in terms of chips for most of the 11.5 hours of play on Day One, while Jacobson and Stephenson ended Day One with 64,750,000 and 46,100,000 in chips respectively.
The fifth player to leave the table was William Pappconstantinou (Billy Pappas), a professional foosball player and winner of 14 different world championship titles. Pappas got into an all-in coin flip against Jacobsen and lost. He was eliminated on the next hand, walking away with a $2,143,794 pay check.
William Tonking was next, the professional poker player from New Jersey was the first player to cross the 50 million chip mark on Day One but as his stack slowly diminished over the second half of the first day, he was eventually dispensed by Jacobson walking away with a payday of $2,849,763.
Play continued for another half an hour before officials called the action at around 4:30 a.m. Day Two will continue at 5:30 p.m. PST at the Rio Las Vegas with the heads-up finale televised "nearly live" by ESPN.
