Ilari Sahamies's Wins Over Half Million Dollars
Friday September 9, 2011 : SAHAMIES STAGES AN ONLINE POKER COMEBACK
Finnish online pro wins another half million dollars
Finnish online poker pro Ilari Sahamies's up-and-down year soared to new heights this week when he hammered the high stakes opposition on Pokerstars in an electrifying session that saw him take home over $500 000.
Our readers will recall that two weeks back Sahamies was battling - down around $800 000 in his 2011 numbers. Then he clashed with Viktor Blom on the Pokerstars virual NL heads up tables, winning $492 000 over 1132 hands to start rebuilding his bankroll.
Within days his fortunes took a downturn in another session with Blom, also at Pokerstars, where the Finn went down $724 000 in 48 hours.
Since then Sahamies has been fighting back into the black, and this week he managed to prosper by just over $500 000 in Pokerstars high stakes action against renowned online players like Phil Galfond and Andreas Torbergsen.
That action included a massive almost $422 000 pot which has been mistakenly reported as the biggest yet in online poker (the record belongs to Blom and Antonius who in November 2009 mixed it up over an internet pot at Full Tilt worth a stunning $1,356,946).
Galfond, who plays under the pseudonym "MrSweets28" joined Sahamies in big wins in the current session, leaving the virtual tables up around $368 000, whilst Torbergson went down to the tune of some $650 000 in the marathon session, although he remains high on the Pokerstars leaderboard, having enjoyed a successful run this year.
Other big winners in the session were VietRussian (+$149 000), socutiesf (+$110 000) and tjbentham (+$100 000).
Rafi “refaelamit” Amit continued to battle, losing another $219 000, as did bernard-bb (-$136 000)
