Greg Raymer has departed the Pokerstars pro scene
Posted 2/1/11 : Reports that Greg Raymer has departed the Pokerstars pro scene
Tweets on the online gossip site Twitter this week pose the question of whether WSOP champ, PPA supporter and internationally recognised poker pro Greg ‘Fossilman’ Raymer has left the Pokerstars pro team.
Speculation is that his resignation followed attempts to cut pro remunerations by the world’s biggest internet poker site.
Fellow pro Kathy Leibert started the ball rolling Monday with a tweet which said: “Heard that PokerStars is cutting many of its Team Pros’ compensation. Take it or leave it. Greg Raymer left it.”
Raymer appeared to confirm the situation in an exchange with fellow pro Pat Pezzin that reportedly took place online. Pezzin apparently asked why Raymer’s name no longer sported the red pro star, to which Raymer laconically responded: “Long story, call me if you’d like.”
Neither Pokerstars nor Raymer has commented officially on the rumours, although it appears that Raymer’s name no longer graces the online poker site’s webpages.
Although another former WSOP champion, Peter Eastgate, resigned from Pokerstars last year, the site still boasts a formidable professional team that includes at least five former WSOP main event winners in Tom McEvoy (1983), Chris Moneymaker (2003), Joe Hachem (2005), Joe Cada (2009), and Jonathan Duhamel (2010).
Raymer has been an effective, articulate and hard working advocate for the online poker industry in the United States and will presumably continue to work with the Poker Players Alliance in seeking the legalisation of online poker in America.
