Ole Schemion Wins Partouche Poker Tour
Monday September 10, 2012 : GERMAN WIN IN PARTOUCHE POKER TOUR
But will this year's fifth edition be the last?
German poker player Ole Schemion emerged as the most successful player in a field of 573 entered for this year's Partouche Poker Tour, which ended in Cannes over the weekend.
The German ace survived a tough final table and a hotly contested heads up with Russian player Karen Sarkisyan to secure the win and the Euro 1,172,850 first prize.
The fifth edition of the PPT was probably the most controversial yet due to the intense feelings generated by the Partouche decision not to honour its much-hyped Euro 5 million guarantee on the prize pool, cutting it by some Euro 700,000 .
Although Partouche owner Patrick Partouche later relented and decided to pay the full guarantee in the face of widespread criticism, he did it with bad grace, telling players that this would be the last tournament under the PPT brand.
Big winner Schemion took the lead around the third day of the main event and managed to dominate the final day's action against an international table of finalists comprising Karen Sarkisyan (Russia); Aaron Lim (Australia); Dan O'Brien (USA); Marcello Marigliano (Italy) and Fabrice Touil (France).
The German eliminated all of them to enter the heads up with Sarkisyan holding a strong chip lead. The two briefly discussed a possible chop but could not reach agreement, a factor which worked for Schemion when he dismissed the Russian shortly thereafter to claim the full first prize purse.
Sarkisyan took home a second placing pay check worth Euro 693,494.
