Gold speaks at the Poker Academy on Saturday 16th at 5.30pm. Jamie will talk about his win in 2006 and gives advice to others who want to win big field, big prize poker tournaments. He will be joined by the likes of Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, Neil Channing and Marc Goodwin as they impart the poker pro’s secrets to the festival attendees.
Summary of the Poker in the Park Speakers
Tony Holden – 5pm, Friday 15th August
Writer and poker player Anthony Holden’s book Big Deal: One Year as a Professional Poker Player has become a cult classic, enjoying no fewer than six editions since its first publication in 1990, with worldwide sales now well into six figures. His long-awaited sequel, Bigger Deal: A Year on the New Poker Circuit was released in mid-2007 to critical acclaim. Tony will be reading from the sequel, which describes his second run at being a poker pro between the 2005 and 2006 World Series events.

As of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $1,000,000.
David ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott – 7pm, Friday 15th August
Dave Ulliott is the best known British poker player. Whether he’s wearing a crisp suit or a leather jacket, ‘Devilfish’ is instantly recognisable by gold knuckleduster rings reading "Devil" and "Fish". A winner at the WSOP, World Poker Tour, Dave Ulliott’s win in the inaugural Late Night Poker series in 1999 was watched by over 1,500,000 people and his character at the table was part of the reason for the renewal of the series – a show which brought thousands of British poker players to the tables.
Paul Jackson – 8pm, Friday 15th August
Midlands-born and bred, Paul Jackson is best-known as an online poker player (he once won two large online poker tournaments in the same night), but has also made numerous high finishes in major live events. Renowned for one of the most famous hands of poker in the modern era where he attempted to bluff one of the very best in the world, Phil Ivey, the sensational hand rightly ear marked ‘Action Jackson’ as one of the most fearless poker players in the world.
Liv Boeree – 11.30am & 3.30pm, Saturday 16th August
One of the fastest emerging talents on the European poker circuit, Absolute Poker snapped up the charismatic Liv Boeree as their European Poker Ambassador in 2007 in what proved to be a well-timed signing. Months later, Liv went on to win the European Ladies Championship, besting 51 other ladies including WSOPE Main Event winner Annette Obrestad. The $30,000 payday is a sign of the bright future many expect Liv to have in the game.
Nik Persaud – 12.30pm, Saturday 16th August
Nik Persaud is a poker player who has been on fire in 2008. Dominating the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and being pipped by Marc Goodwin to a win in Manchester, Nik tops the tour’s rankings and is one of the most dangerous MTT players on the British circuit. He’s also featured on the July cover of ‘Bluff Europe’.
Neil Channing - 1.30pm, Saturday 16th August
Another who has graced the front page of Bluff Europe, Neil Channing is a leading cash game and tournament player – a rare mix in the modern era. In March 2008, Channing won the 2008 Irish Poker Open and €801,400 (over $1,200,000) against a field of 667 players. As of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $1,900,000.
Marc Goodwin - 2.30pm, Saturday 16th August 15:30
A former windows salesman from Birmingham, Marc Goodwin turned pro after a sensational third place finish at the Monte Carlo Millions, trailing only the legendary Phil Ivey and fellow Poker in the Park guest Paul Jackson. After his $325,000 payout in Monte Carlo, Marc hit the European poker circuit and made his mark immediately with a hot streak which saw him final table four European events in quick succession.
Dr Tom Sambrook – 4.30pm, Saturday 16th August
Dr. Tom Sambrook is one of the best known poker analysts in the United Kingdom, with regular column in poker magazines as well as appearing on Sky Poker’s ‘Poker Night Live’. Sambrook is also a talent player, having won the 2002 European Poker Championship as well as going close to a win at the GUKPT Manchester in 2007. With career earnings of over $280,000, Sambrook is the proof that poker smarts equals cash.
Jamie Gold – 5.30pm, Saturday 16th August
The 2006 World Champion and winner of the biggest prize pool ever – a staggering $12 million, Jamie Gold outlasted 8,772 others to enter the history books. Infamous for his ability to persuade players to make bad decisions by talking during the hand, Jamie’s brute force strength with the big stack ultimately led to him beating Paul Wasicka heads-up. Since winning the title, Jamie has continued to support charities around the world, including the WSOP ‘Ante Up for Africa’ appeal.
All of our guests will be helping poker players with 20-30 minute seminars on the game, and will be available for book signings and photo opportunities with those at the Poker Academy throughout the two days.
