Online Poker Traffic Declines 2.2 Percent Last Week
Tuesday July 31,2012 : WEEKLY ONLINE POKER TRAFFIC DECLINES
Latest Pokerscout numbers show a broad decline of 2.2 percent last week
Several weeks of moderate online poker traffic gains were derailed last week when a broad decline of 2.2 percent was experienced by many sites, according to the latest weekly report from the independent online poker monitor Pokerscout.
Among the top 10 sites and networks, decliners outpaced advancers 8-2, with most sites falling 5 percent or more, the monitor reports.
Thanks to astute 'happy hour' promotions offering extra frequent player points to ring game players, PokerStars managed to stay ahead of the losing curve, with its promotional strategy delivering a 20 percent boost to traffic and contributing to a modest week-over-week traffic increase of 0.9 percent overall.
Pokerscout's year-over-year numbers continue to reflect declining traffic, with a 20 percent slide from the comparative period in 2011.
Pokerstars remains in the top spot despite a decline in traffic (exc. Italy) of 19 percent over the year, followed by iPoker (-38 percent) and Party Poker (-47 percent).
Operators showing gains include the merged Lock - Cake Poker Revolution Gaming, up 48 percent.
Still not doing so well are International Poker Network (IPN) down 56 percent on 2011; IGT Poker down 46 percent; Everest Poker down 44 percent; PKR down 39 percent; Ongame Network down 24 percent and the formerly scintillating Merge Poker Network, now down 13 percent.
Two smaller networks that continue to demonstrate resilience are Chico Poker Network (formerly Action Poker Network) which has traffic up 71 percent y-o-y, and Winning Poker Network (formerly Yatahay) up a remarkable 200 percent.
