Gambling: Progressive Betting
Blackjack betting systems have been around for many, many years. The most popular are the progressive betting systems, like the Martingale System, that teaches the player to double their wager after every loss. The theory is that the player will eventually win a hand and show proceeds from the initial bet. If you lose a $5 bet and then bet $10 the next time, a win will provide you with $5 profit. If the $10 bet misses, a $20 bet win will once again give you $5 profit over the three hands.
The problem with this kind of betting system is that the casinos have betting limits to their games. If you have enough losing hands in a row you won’t be able to bet enough for the theory of the system to hold up.
If the betting limit on the blackjack table is $5 to $100, it would only take five losing hands in a row to render the system useless. That’s why these systems just don’t make sense to play, unless you can find a game without betting limits, and good luck with that.
Other progressive betting systems have been developed to counteract the limits that casinos put on their blackjack games. One system would have the player decide on a limit for a small and big bet.
They would alternate the big bet and small bet depending on the previous hand’s outcome. If their bet limits are $5 and $15, they will make the big bet of $15 after every winning hand. Once they lose a hand they make the smaller bet until they win a hand. This system tries to take advantage of a winning streak while minimizing a losing steak.
Another similar progressive system that works within the table betting limits is a system that has four or five different sizes of bets. You start with a bet of $5 and if you win you then bet $10. As long as you keep winning you keep increasing the bet until you’ve won at the highest bet in your limits. If at anytime you lose a hand you have to start back at a $5 bet. Even after winning a hand at your highest bet you should bet the next hand at the original $5 bet.
