The top professional sports leagues and the NCAA are clearly unhappy with Judge Gregory Sleet's recent decision not to grant an injunction against Delaware's implementation of legislation allowing sportsbetting lottery activity in the state.
The leagues had hoped to stop the state of Delaware in its tracks pending a full hearing on the issue now scheduled for December 7th, but the judge gave clear reasons why this would not be accepted.
Within days of the judge's decision, attorneys for the professional sports leagues and the NCAA appealed Judge Sleet's decision, reports Associated Press. The leagues filed a notice of appeal with the court on Friday, two days after their request for a preliminary injunction was denied.
In setting a December 7th trial date on the constitutionality of the Delaware legislature's new law, Sleet said the leagues had not met the criteria to justify an injunction.
The appeal could interfere with the state's effort to begin sports betting with the start of football season in September.
