New Poker Tournament Format : Triple Prize Pools
January 5, 2013 : TRIPLE PRIZE POOLS IN NEW TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Poker pro's concept gives players more choice
Britain's Dusk Till Dawn poker club is set to debut an interesting new multi-level prize pool concept on January 10.
The brainchild of poker pro Roberto Romanello, the idea has been developed in collaboration with Rob Yong and Simon Trumper at DTD and consists of a format that offers three buy-in levels and three separate prize pools, allowing low-stakes players to compete with the higher-stakes pros, and vice versa.
UK Poker News reports that Romanello has dubbed and trademarked the concept Multi-Prize Pool (MPP) poker.
Players are offered three buy-in levels, generating three distinct prize pools. Players who select the buy-in for all three levels will, if successful, be paid the full level three prize pool main prize. Those who select cheaper buy-ins will have winnings restricted to that level/s.
Tournament structures remain unchanged, with every player starting with the same number of chips; the difference lies in the manner in which pay-outs are allocated: players invested solely in the lowest prize pool can only win money from that pool. Players who buy in to Prize Pool 2 could win money from both Prize Pool 1 and Prize Pool 2, and so on.
Romanello says that both recreational players and pros can benefit from his concept because it attracts more casual players, allowing for a softer field while giving these players the opportunity to test their skills against top players.
The first roll-out of the concept at DTD on January 10 will offer players a choice of three buy-in levels - GBP25, 50 and 100.
