GBP 76,000 taken by accounts administrator

A Duxford, UK woman with a passion for internet bingo has been sentenced to 16 months imprisonment for defrauding a company she worked for of GBP 76,081, taken to feed her gambling habit.

Lucienne Mainey (41) of appeared in the Ipswich Crown Court Tuesday after admitting six counts of fraud by false representation and asking for 25 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

The court heard evidence that Mainey paid herself the monies last year when she worked as an accounts administrator for APD Ltd, changing old invoices and making the payments to her personal bank account.

Evidence in mitigation was that Mainey had no previous convictions and had turned to internet bingo following the breakdown of her marriage.

Judge Peter Fenn ordered her assets, which totalled GBP 800, should be paid to APD Ltd in compensation.
