Aaron Benton wins Pokerstars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Sydney Grand Final
12/8/09 – The Pokerstars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Sydney Grand Final ended in a local vistory this weekend as online qualifier Aaron Benton of Wollongong, New South Wales, bested a field of 395 to take the main A$594 000 prize and the trophy.
Benton, a 32-year-old personnel consultant, said that he played on the Internet and in bar games, but had liked poker so much that he decided to take it to the higher tournament levels.
To secure the win, Benton faced a final table that comprised: Ernst Hermans, Leo Boxell, Wayne Carlson, Tom Grigg, Andrew Hiscox, Barry Forrester, David Formosa and Thomas Slifka.
The final heads up was between Benton and another online qualifier, Ernst Hermans from Holland, who was beaten in the contest but still took home a useful A$381 000.
This was the third consecutive year that this competition has been won by a local player.
