AFJEL TO TACKLE FRENCH REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

Posted 3/25/11 : ewly formed association comprises six leading gaming operators

A new association l’Association Française du Jeu en Ligne (AFJEL), has been formed with a view to tackling amendments in the French online gambling regulatory arena.

The newly formed association is headed up by Nicolas Beraud – President of BetclicEverest and comprises six members who are operators currently licensed with ARJEL – the French gaming regulatory body.

The association aims to lobby the French Government to review its current regulatory framework and fast track new reforms to ensure a fairer, more competitive French market for both players and operators.

AFJEL intends to invite public debate on and submit proposals with regard to changes to the law of 12 May 2010 which includes a clause revoyure.

Three issues are presently at the forefront of its drive:

–     Change current taxation on operators to a Gross Profit Tax model.
–     Separate internet casinos from land-based casinos to enable private operators to compete on a fair basis with previous monopolies PMU and FDJ.
–     Broaden the scope of opening up the online gambling and online casino markets.

The association members are Betclic.fr, Chilipoker.fr, EverestPoker.fr, France-Pari.fr, Sajoo.fr and Zeturf.fr.
