Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is installing new PokerTek tables on the Norwegian Pearl.

The firm recently began conducting a 90-day trial of the equipment on the ship and may add more tables to the other 11 cruise ships in NCL's fleet.

PokerTek tables are automated and gamers can play their favourite card game without a dealer.

Among the advantages offered by PokerTek tables are faster hands and no dealer errors.

Jim Abbas, vice president of casino operations for NCL, said: "We are eager to see how successful PokerPro is on one of our newest ships, Norwegian Pearl."

Robert Perry of PokerTek added that installing the equipment on ships has often proved a popular move as it offers guests an extra amenity in a cost-effective manner.

Earlier this month, PokerTek installed tables at the Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino in St Kitts.

The tables enable up to ten players to take part in Texas hold'em games.
