Pat Meeks has emerged as the victor in the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Greektown event.
The player said that he entered the tournament on the "spur of the moment" after his friends convinced him to take part.
Meeks, the Michigan-based gamer battled through a field of 374 other competitors to claim $162,792.
He commented: "This is all pretty overwhelming right now."
"I'm working on a couple hours of sleep and I'm practically unconscious right now. I'm sure it will take a few days to sink in," he added.
The event was one of the largest poker tournaments ever held in Michigan and had a total prize pool of $545,646.
Earlier this month, Chris Dombrowski came first in the in an HPT event at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.
He won $90,773 for his efforts, almost $40,000 more than Tony Graziano who came in second.
The event had a total prize pool of $235,750 available to those who made the money bubble.
