District police chief ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop told reporters that since January 2009 the police have seized almost 2 000 computers, functioning as slot machines and worth about RM1 million, and arrested 140 people in a string of raids.
The latest operations were carried out in the Klang district and involved raids across premises in Kapar, Meru, Port Klang, Pandamaran and Klang town.
ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop said those arrested were people who ran the illegal gaming centres and their customers. The police crackdown would continue he said, pointing out that the police had been assisted by numerous tip-offs from residents and relatives of the gamblers.
