FINAL TABLE SET FOR POKERSTARS CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE

Posted 1/14/11 : Oliver ahead as final eight get down to business

After five days of tough live poker, 21-year-old Chris Oliver, a pro from Florida, will be in a strong position when the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure main event final table gathers Saturday afternoon.

Thursday saw 22 survivors of an original field of 1 560 players play down to the final eight at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas in just on six hours. At stake is a giant $15 132 000 prize pool, with $2.3 million going to the winner.

Hopes of a Chris Moneymaker comeback were dashed as the internet legend crashed out at 11th, just after the last woman player still in the game, Spain's Ana Marquez was busted out in 10th.

When the final eight reconvene to decide the big winner, Oliver will have a formidable lead of 13.24 million over his nearest rival, Galen Hall, in a final table that includes: Sam Stein (5,855,000); Mike Sowers (3,685,000); Anton Ionel (3,520,000); Max Weinberg (3,350,000); Bolivar Palacios (2,445,000); and Philippe Plouffe (1,555,000).

The top four spots on the final table will pay out at least a million each, with the remaining players taking home a minimum of $202 000.
