PokerTek has announced that it will be installing some of its PokerPro tables at the Valley View Casino in San Diego.

The venue already offers 2,000 slot machines and 30 table games, but now gamers will be able to play poker on automated tables, reports BusinessJournal.com

With the PokerPro technology, cards are dealt to individual gamers on private screens, while other information is displayed on a large screen in the centre of the table.

Customers are able to set up accounts for betting and keep statistical information on their games.

It is hoped that the system will improve casino revenue by increasing the number of hands played per hour and reducing the labour cost of poker rooms.

PokerTek has also signed an agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) to install a number of automated tables on its ships.

The first vessel to feature the electronic poker system is the Norwegian Pearl, but NCL has indicated that if the trials are successful, more hardware might be purchased.
