Toronto police swooped on four business premises they claimed were being used for illegal gambling last week, arresting 47 people and seizing gamblikng equipment and Cdn$ 12 000 in cash.
 
The raids were carried out simultaneously, a police spokesman revealed. Three of the four businesses raided were in Toronto and one was in Pickering, police said.
 
Nine people have subsequently been charged with keeping a common gaming house while 36 accused and two young offenders face charges of being found in a common gaming house.
