The results for the opening rounds of the German qualifying stages for the World Cup of Poker Five have been announced.

Some sixteen qualifying events were held in provinces throughout Germany, with two players from each progressing to the next round, reports PokerStars.

The competition takes place at the Bahamas during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2009.

Gamers who have qualified for the next round will have until November 23rd to prepare for the next stage, where the teams will be whittled down to five players.

They will then join forces to take on players from around the world in a bid to win the World Cup of Poker title for their nation and pocket $20,000 each.

Among those who are in with a chance of representing Germany are online players by the names of fsh!, TomTomSnow, DeepBlue3112 and HayaTom.

Last year, the team from the US, comprised of Tyler Netter, Randy Principe, John Kenlan, Shaun Deeb and Greg Raymer, won the tournament, which was held in Barcelona.
