Michael Gathy celebrates his first brcelet and a bank account boosting $440,829.

Event 21 – $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em – is in the World Series of Poker history books after a three day battle royale involving 2,799 entrants, and the winner is Belgian pro Michael Gathy.

Early Wednesday morning the Belgian player took the lion's share of the $2,519,100 prize pool – $440,829 – after defeating Jamie Armstrong in the heads up and sending him to the cashier for the runner up prize of $273,776. Gathy started the heads up with a 5 to 1 chip disadvantage but managed to claw his way back into contention and then ascendency.

It was the 23-year-old's first World Series of Poker cash and certainly his biggest career win to date, achieved on a final table that included aces like Eric Baldwin and John Esposito. He joins Davidi Kitai as the only Belgians to win WSOP bracelets.
