Prize pool tops $17.8 million in World Series of Poker charity event
 
166 entries for the World Series of Poker $111,111 buy-in Big One for One Drop High Roller charity event have generated a prize pool of over $17.8 million, setting new international live tournament records.
 
The event includes some of global poker's most respected players, but not Phil Hellmuth this year, according to a Tweet from the famous pro, who last year took home $4.2 million by finishing fourth in the event.
 
Among those who are playing are Vanessa Selbst, Daniel Negreanu, Matt Glantz, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier, Antonio Esfandiari and Tom Dwan, along with many other pros and a hefty weighting of wealthy amateur players.
 
The huge prize pool will allow 24 players to cash a minimum of $173,723, with the winner taking home $4.8 million.
 
The previous richest individual event was the Guangdong Asia Millions high roller, which earlier this month generated a $15 million prize pool.
 
When we went to press several top pros had already been eliminated, including Isaac Haxton, Dan Smith and Michael Mizrachi.
