2013 Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure

01/09/2013 : STELLAR TURNOUT FOR BAHAMAS POKER TOURNAMENT

Most of poker's big names enter for the main event of the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure

The second entry day for the main event of the 2013 Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas attracted a strong registration list, bringing the total number of entrants for Days 1a and b to 987.

Railbirds had a hard time keeping up with the number of notable names taking their seats, which included Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth, along with Phil Ivey, Jake Cody, Liv Boeree, Dan Smith and Carlos Mortensen. Even Olympics celebrity Mike Phelps was seen in action, and doing pretty well at that, finishing the day 11th.

Take a look at the top ten chip counts at the end of Day 1b to get a feel for the gravitas of the entry list; it included: Ashton Griffin (chip leader for the day), Michael Mizrachi, Greg Mueller, Simon Higgins, Giacomo Fundaro, Killian Kramer, Shawn Buchanan, Oliver Busquet, Steve O'Dwyer and Joe Serock, who took a break from his new life as a wine worker.

Tournament officials revealed that the high number of buy-ins would generate a tasty prize pool of around $9.57 million – enough for the last 144 players in the tournament to cash for varying amounts, with the winner taking home around $1.86 million.

With the entry days now consigned to the history books, watch out for plenty of excitement and action as this large and star-studded field (about 500 have survived to Day 2) battles it out for the really big money.
