Friday June 6,2014 : NEGREANU DENIED SEVENTH WORLD SERIES OF POKER BRACELET
Events 12 and 13 completed at the Rio.
High profile poker pro Daniel Negreanu was denied his seventh World Series of Poker bracelet Thursday as events 12 and 13 concluded at the Rio in Las Vgeas.
Event 12, a $1,500 buy-in Pot Limit Hold'Em contest which attracted an entry field of 557 and generated a prize pool of $751,950, was won by Greg Kolo, who never really relinquished his final table chip lead with an impressive display of skill throughout the match.
His heads up against Kazu Oshima lasted a mere six hands before he dispatched Oshima to the cashier for a pay-day of $104,513.
Kolo claimed his first WSOP bracelet and the main prize of $169,225.
Negreanu faced Paul Volpe and a formidable final table in event 13, a $10,000 buy-in No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball championship competition in which 87 players fought for a share in the $817,800 prize pool.
Seated around the final table with Negreanu and Volpe were Abe Mosseri, Larry Wright, John Monnette, Jason Mercier and Brian Rast – an intimidating collection of talent and experience to say the least.
Going into the heads up, Volpe held the lead but Negreanu fought fiercely, buoyed by an ambition to add a seventh bracelet to his display cabinet. It was not enough, however, and after 85 hands it was Volpe who claimed victory, his first bracelet and the main prize of $253,524, leaving a disappointed Negreanu with the runner-up prize of $156,674.)
