Nevada pro Arash Ghaneian bests Aussie Rob Campbell in heads up.
 
The heads up finale to event 24 at the World Series of Poker – a $1,500 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. competition – was a close-run thing at one point for winner Arash Ghaneian as his tenacious Aussie opponent Rob Campbell almost eliminated him in the Eight or Better round.
 
However, the Nevada pro managed to dodge the bullet and ultimately overcome the Australian, sending him home with the $148,096 second placing money.
 
The winner's purse of $239,750 will be especially useful in the Ghaneian household, where his wife is expecting twins….and of course there is the pride associated with claiming his first WSOP bracelet after playing in WSOP events over the past 11 years.
 
772 entries were recorded for the event, creating a prize pool of over a million dollars, which enabled 80 finishers to cash, among them many of the top names in the game.
 
Scheduled to unfold over three days, an extra day was needed to finish the competition due to the high entry turnout and a slower attrition rate than expected.
 
On the extra day just three players remained in contention – Ghaneian and Campbell, and third finisher David Levi. At that point Campbell held the most chips, but it was Ghaneian who busted Levi out in third for $100,676, setting the scene for the heads up.
