2015 WSOPE Event 8

Tuesday October 20,2015 : ANOTHER GREEK VICTORY AT WORLD SERIES OF POKER EUROPE

546 entrants pony up $1,100 to play in Event 8.

The Greeks are making an impression at the World Series of Poker Europe currently taking place in Berlin; Georgios Sotiropoulos is the latest Greek national to be awarded a WSOP winner's bracelet following in the steps of Pavlos Xanthopoulos and Makarios Avramidis earlier this week

Sotiropoulos was part of the 546-strong entry field for the eighth event in this year's tournament, the $1,500 buy-in Turbo No-Limit Hold’em competition, and he survived them all to claim the main prize of Euro 112,133 and his first WSOP bracelet.

It was his fifth – and biggest – career World Series of Poker cash, and a remarkable achievement, considering that the final table included quality players like John Racener, Brian Hastings and Byron Kaverman.

The heads up between Sotiropoulos and French player Paul Tedeschi commenced when Andre Lommel and Benjamin Zamani almost simultaneously busted in a hand that prominently featured Sotiropoulos, leaving the Greek ace and Tedeschi with similar chip stacks and the main prize in sight.

The two went back and forth for a while in an equally matched contest, but Sotiropoulos won some key hands and all-ins that eventually enabled him to eliminate his French opponent and send him home with the second placing pay-check for Euro 69,361.

The other final table players cashed as follows:

Andre Lommel Euro 50,719
Benjamin Zamani Euro 37,636
Rafal Tomczak Euro 28,318
John Racener Euro 21,600
Brian Hastings Euro 16,703
Byron Kaverman Euro 13,094
Asher Conniff Euro 10,402
