Monday January 11,2016 : POKER PRO O'DWYER CLAIMS ANOTHER HIGH ROLLER TITLE
Single day $50,000 buy-in Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure event attracts total of 80 entries.
Poker pro Steve O'Dwyer has started his year with a bang, earning almost $1.9 million in the first week and a half of 2016 thanks to events in the Philippines and now the Bahamas.
In his latest triumph O'Dwyer took down the $50,000 buy-in single day Super High Roller NLHE competition in the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, an event that attracted 58 unique players and 22 re-entries to make a total of 80, generating a prize pool of $3,860,000.
It was his fourth major win (and seventh final table appearance) since late 2014 in high roller competitions with buy-ins of $50,000 or more, a record which has contributed around $7 million to his career earnings.
O'Dwyer's latest victory earned him $945,495 in this accelerated event, in which blind levels lasted only 30 mins, and only the last 11 survivors cashed.
The final table included quality players like Isaac Haxton, Bryn Kenney and Erik Seidel but it was Conan Drinan who ultimately faced O'Dwyer in the heads up, and the duo immediately started bargaining to achieve a mutually agreeable chop.
They finally made a deal that gave O’Dwyer $914,811 and Drinan $870,625, with $30,684 left on the table for the winner, along with the title.
Just half an hour later it was all over as O'Dwyer skilfully turned a small chip lead into a notable win, eliminating Drinan but sending him home with an impressive runner up consolation prize of $870,625.
O'Dwyer can now boast a career earnings achievement of nearly $14 million, placing him among the ranks of the most successful professional poker players.
The other final table cashes looked like this:
Ivan Luca $494,080
Isaac Haxton $380,200
Erik Seidel $301,080
Daniel Dvoress $235,460
Bryn Kenney $185,280
Paul Newey $144,760
