Prestigious PGA EuroPro Tour to benefit again from deal with online poker operator

Online poker provider 888Poker.com has again joined the ranks of the growing number of internet gambling groups that are entering into sponsorship deals with major sports and sporting events.

The gambling group has signed a new main title sponsor agreement with the prestigious PGA EuroPro Tour for its 2012 season, extending a relationship that saw the two organisations successfully partner up for the 2011 season

Gareth Edwards, director of marketing at 888poker, said: “888Poker is delighted to be the main title sponsor of the PGA EuroPro Tour. Having had such success with our experience last year, we are very confident that being the 2012 title sponsor ticks all the right boxes.”

Founded in 2001, the EuroPro Tour is a partnership between the PGA and Matchroom Sport and has proven a fertile breeding ground for players seeking to reach the top of the game.

The EuroPro Tour has established itself as the leading developmental golf tour in the world with the top five in the Order of Merit at the end of each season advancing to the challenge Tour, with a number of golfers then progressing on to the main European Tour alongside Europe’s elite.

The 2011 Order of Merit winner Chris Hanson collected more than GBP 37,000 in winnings.

Big names abound in the tournament's history: Ross Fisher, a member of the 2010 victorious European Ryder Cup team, began his career on the EuroPro Tour, as did 2010 Open winner Louis Oosthuizen. Lee Slattery, Robert Rock and Branden Grace, who have all won European Tour events since October, have also played in EuroPro Tour events in the past.

Danny Nickless, operations manager of the PGA EuroPro Tour, commented: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that 888poker will be the Main Title sponsor of the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2012.

"888poker is an extremely professional, forward thinking and highly successful company who have an established name and brand that is great for the Tour to be linked with. I am really looking forward to what should be a great year.”
