Authorities acknowledge difficulty in stopping online betting

The Vietnamese General Anti-Crime Police Department along with the Ministry of Public Security is grappling with illegal Euro 2012 online betting in the country with the cooperation of internet service providers but admit there are challenges in shutting down operators permanently.

Nguyen Thanh Hoa, director of the Police Hi-Tech Criminal Unit said: "We have banned up to 181 betting website addresses and 195 IP addresses across the country during the event.  However, about 30 new betting websites open every day. It is hard to manage all of them at the same time. If banned, bookmakers will create new sites and IP addresses while simultaneously issuing access guidelines."

According to district Police, three men were arrested for allegedly hosting betting activities in Hanoi.
