Nikolaus Tiechart bested a field of 1,735 to claim a main prize worth $730,736
 
German amateur player Nikolaus Tiechart is $730,736 better off today following his victory in the $2,500 buy-in event 56 at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas – a NLHE competition that attracted 1,736 entrants.
 
“The bracelet, for me, is a dream," said the delighted German, who plays "for fun" and is a retired investor from Dusseldorf. “This is the greatest day of my life.”
 
He had reason to be pleased – among the final table aces he bested were professional players Josh Arieh and Nicolas Levi, along with Vincent Maglio, Dan Owen, Sergey Lebedev, Kirill Rabtsov, Nicolas Faure and Sebastien Comel.
 
The event was one of several this year that had to run to extra time as Tiechert and Vincent Maglio battled it out in a taut heads up that ran to an extra day.
 
After the fourth day restart the German quickly leveraged a slight chip lead to finish Maglio off and send him home with a consolatory $452,008 after about an hour of intense action.
 
It was Tiechert's first WSOP bracelet and his biggest prize money yet, although he has competed and cashed in World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour events in the past.
