Sunday, October 30, 2011 : And a hefty Euro 680 000 pay cheque
Andrey Pateychuk, a 22-year-old Russian student, bested an 831 player field and a talented final table to take the European Poker Tour San Remo Season 8 title along with a Euro 680 000 first prize in an event described as one of the most exciting in live tournament history.
Prior to going into the heads-up against Bulgarian poker pro Dimitar Danchev, the two struck a deal that assured each Euro 600 000, leaving the remaining Euro 80 000 and the title up for grabs.
The event finished up:
1. Andrey Pateychuk Euro 680 000
2. Dimitar Danchev Euro 600 000
3. Daniel Neilson Euro 285 000
4. Barny Boatman Euro 225 000
5. Jan Bendik Euro 170 000
6. Yorane Kerignard Euro 130 000
7. Rocco Palumbo Euro 95 000
8. Kevin MacPhee Euro 63 694
Pateychuck said: “It feels great to win. I haven’t played so many live tournaments but I’ve played a lot of final tables online so I have a lot of experience. It was actually harder when it was 30 players and people like Johnny Lodden, Lex Veldhuis, Kevin MacPhee and Mike McDonald were still in. It was tough if they had position on you.”
He plans to continue his Information Security studies at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
The Euro 4 900 Main Event reached an 831 player-field from 53 countries. 128 places were paid from a total prize pool of Euro 3 734 695.
