Thursday September 15,2011 :  Hellmuth and Grospellier mull team selections

Next month's World Series of Poker Europe will again feature an epic US vs. Europe clash on the felt between teams of top pro players representing the two geographical blocs.

Sponsored by Caesars Entertainment, which provides the prestigious Caesars Cup after which annual tournament is named, the two teams will be selected for the Ryder Cup-style competition this year by captains Phil Hellmuth for the United States and European ace Bertrand ‘ElkY' Grospellier, both internet players of note in addition to their live tournament successes.

Each team will comprise five players, who will face off in a no-limit hold'em tournament that will feature both partner and heads-up formats with points awarded for different elements.

At the last outing in 2009 Scandinavian poker prodigy Annette Obrestad captained a European team that swept the board, an achievement referred to this week by tournament director Ty Stewart:

“Team Americas has a score to settle after what most considered a colossal upset in London,” he remarked. “You see a real rivalry developing as European players continue to win more tournaments around the world.”
