LATEST POKER SUBSCRIPTION CLUB IS GRRRINDING ALONG

Launched late January this year, ‘chiangsman's' site is pulling them in

The latest addition to the poker subscription club sector, a business model designed to get around US legal hassles, is owned by David ‘chiangsman' Webb (50), who probably epitomises the hard-working if undistinguished ‘grinder' style of play.

His GRRRinders.com operation is reportedly pulling in an impressive number of players only two months after launch, powered by a no-download app that has considerable flexibility and expansion potential into other deliver channels.

Members of Webb's internet club pay a monthly subscription of $25 and compete for cash prizes in free members-only tournaments on the website. It's a business model that is claimed to be impervious to enforcement actions in the United States on the grounds that no direct gambling takes place. Previous clubs have met with a mixed reception, and the commercial casualty rate in the sector has been high.

Nevertheless, Webb's Nevada-based company faces some stiff competition from similar outfits like ClubWPT, TripleJack and Pureplay.

Certainly Webb appears to have strong financial backing, judging by the number of tournaments and prizes on offer every week…and customer service and management response is reportedly quick and efficient.
