Michael Tureniec Wins Pokerstars European Poker Tour Copenhagen

Posted 2/27/11 : Almost half a million Euros in prize money for Swedish pro

Swedish pro Michael Tureniec added a whopping Euro 498 000 to his $1.2 million in career winnings this week when he took down the Pokerstars European Poker Tour Copenhagen in the Danish capital.

The competition attracted 448 players, among them some of Scandinavian’s best, all vying for the top prize of Danish Kronor 3.7 million, and the specially commissioned Shamballa winner’s bracelet.

The event ultimately came down to a final table comprising Tureniec, Juha Helppi, Andrea Dalle Molle, Per Linde (in the chip lead), Nikolas Liakos, Mudassar Khan, Kevin Iacofano and online qualifier John Eames.

The total prize pool reserved for the final table players topped DKK 15,086,400.

After a tough and exciting battle, Tureniec and Linde faced each other in the heads up, with Tureniec holding a two-to-one advantage in chips.  The two Sedes went at it with skill and fervour, but that chip advantage and his determination to take the main prize ensured that Tureniec eventually wore down his opponent.

Linde’s tenacious pursuit of the winner earned him the DKK2.45 million (around Euro 330 000) runner up prize.
