Posted 3/25/11 : Online poker young gun doubles his career earnings with $200 000 main prize

Mustapha Kanit, a 20-year-old Italian online player better known to his internet opponents as ‘mustacchione’ has proved that he has what it takes to win live tournaments as well, following up a Euro 53 500 win in the Malta Poker Dream last year by sweeping all before him in the Pokerstars Italian Poker Tour Nova Gorica main event this week.

395 players, many of them highly experienced pros, entered the event, generating a prize pool of Euro 768 240, and delivering a winner’s paycheck of Euro 200 000 to the young Italian, doubling his live tourney career earnings.

Kanit, who hails from the ancient city of Ravenna in northern Italy, faced a final table comprising Marco Mancini, Salvatore Castorina, Daniele Scatragli, Enrico Fabrizi, Maurizio Cappanni, Ciro Calabrese and Massimiliano di Paolantonio, fighting his way through the pack until he faced off against Marco Mancini in the heads up.

Mancini’s runner-up prize was a Euro 122 000 payday – the only other six-figure take-home in the event.
