Sorel Mizzi Denied Cheating At Poker

Posted 2/25/11 : Alleged shuffle irregularities start a war of words with November Niner

The popular  poker message board found plenty of grist for its mill this week as two well known poker players clashed over allegations of cheating.

World Series of Poker finalist John Racener, acting initially through a third party, launched the accusation only days after the news surfaced that Sorel Mizzi was back in favour at the Full Tilt online poker website, from which he had been excluded for years on allegations of cheating.

Racener’s claim dates from this year’s Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, and were initially posted  by Freddie Deeb.  The claim is that Racener and Mizzi played privately whilst at the tournament, and that one of the gamestyles played was Chinese Poker with a Joker.

During the game Racener challenged Mizzi for a shuffling irregularity, refusing to acknowledge losses as a result. Mizzi has since denied the allegations.

Racener himself then exacerbated the tension between the two by alleging in an interview this week that Mizzi had tried to get him drunk prior to a high stakes private game.

However, Racener subsequently backed off on his accusations, although remaining adamant on his cheating allegations.

“After much thought, I realize now that taking such matters to a public forum is dangerous and can be detrimental to the person that is being talked about. I also should not have allowed the matter to be addressed by a third party in a public forum. I look forward to putting this incident far behind me. This matter is being dealt with between Sorel and I, and I consider the topic to be closed,” he posted.
