ADELSON WEBSITES STILL DOWN

Saturday February 15,2014 :  ADELSON WEBSITES STILL DOWN (Update)

Fears that customer credit card data may have been accessed.

Going into the fourth day of downtime after hackers disabled websites belonging to Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands land gambling group, Associated Press reports that there are fears that customer credit card data may have been accessed in the hack

Nevada Gaming Control Board chairman A.G. Burnett told the news agency late Thursday that the regulators' first priority was to ensure the safety of player information and the integrity of the gambling systems.

Burnett noted that Sands officials had told him that early indications were that these two highly sensitive areas had not been breached, but that the company was continuing to investigate.

He amended his statement made earlier in the day, when he assured that player information had not been compromised.

A spokesman for Las Vegas Sands declined to discuss the matter further with AP, standing on an earlier corporate statement that the company was still investigating in a step-by-step process to ascertain exactly what systems had been compromised.

Meanwhile, corporate email functionality continued to be a problem and company employees reportedly remain unable to log into their work computers.

Burnett said that the Nevada regulator is checking that LVS did everything possible to protect employee information. The hackers, whose identities remain unknown, posted the social security numbers of employees on the Sands sites.

It is understood that the FBI is monitoring the situation closely.
