Most of the celebrities on display will be athletes or retired athletes, and they almost always win the tournament. Mulder, for example, was a two-time All-Star pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, then won the 2006 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals. Other champions include former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, who won the inaugural event in 1990 and again in 2014. Rypien is the third favorite for this years Classic at +450.

Only one “non-athlete” has ever won the Classic, although former General Hospital star Jack Wagner (+700) did play football and basketball in high school, and won the Missouri JUCO golf championship in 1980. Wagner took down the Classic in 2006 and 2011, but at age 56, he might have a harder time keeping up with the competition next week.
