Atlantic City August 2015 Revenues Decline Again

Overall 5 percent year-on-year slide…but online gambling improves.
 
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has released statistics for August, showing that revenues in Atlantic City declined a further 5 percent year-on-year to $258.6 million (August 2014: $272.3 million).
 
However, the online gambling component delivered another increase at $12.2 million (August 2014: $10.5 million) up just over 16 percent.
 
Matthew Levinson, chairman of the state Casino Control Commission, noted that the numbers year to date perhaps paint a more promising picture. That data shows an overall increase of 3.2 percent among the eight remaining casinos.
 
But if the casinos shuttered last year are included, the overall y-o-y decline is sharper, down 15 percent from August 2014's $305 million, and the year-to-date decline then approaches 10 percent.
 
Drilling down into the online gambling numbers shows that casino action was up 22.9 percent year-on-year at $10.2 million (August 2014: $8.3 million) but online poker was down 12 percent at $1.98 million (August 2014: $2.25 million).
 
On month-by-month comparison with July 2015, August online casino revenues were almost 4 percent lower than the preceding month, but poker was up by 5 percent, and total revenues were sequentially 2.5 percent lower.
 
The Borgata-PartyPoker alliance continues to lead the New Jersey online market with an overall 30.1 percent share, still ahead of Tropicana on 22.8 percent, which is marginally in front compared to Caesars Interactive on 22.6 percent.
 
The Golden Nugget-Betfair combo sit at fourth with a reduced market share in August of 18.4 percent, and Resorts again improved to claim 6.1 percent as rumours of the imminent arrival of its partner Pokerstars rose.
