May revenues dip 9.5 percent

Latest gambling numbers released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement for the month of May 2012 show another disappointing decline for Atlantic City, down 9.5 percent to $263 million.

Hopes that the new Revel casino resort would lift revenues went unrealised; revenues at the $2.4 billion enterprise in May totalled $13.9 million, ranking it eighth out of the city’s 12 casinos, although it was an improvement on April's $13.4 million contribution.

In April, Atlantic City revenues slipped 10 percent compared with the same month last year, whilst in March, revenues were down 5 percent compared with the same period last year.

In a positive sign for the industry, the DGE released quarterly figures that showed the gross operating profit for all 12 casinos, which includes non-gambling revenue, was up 17 percent compared with the same period last year.
